Making a soap dispenser look like new

I bought this soap dispenser a while ago. I loved the colors and the flower and the way it looked in my bathroom.

But the gold color on the pump started coming off -- and I had only had it for less than a year!  Needless to say, I wasn't very happy.

But a couple of coats of black spray paint and it's good as new!  And on the plus side, the black actually works better in my bathroom anyway.
